Antivirus Performance Comparison
The virus can do a wide range of things, from taking over hard disk space to getting access to your private information or draining your CPU. There are a variety of anti-virus tools on the market that can help safeguard your gadgets and avoid these types of problems. It is important to choose an antivirus program that will have a minimal impact on performance of your system. This is one of the main factors that all of our antivirus products are tested against. The results depend on how long it takes each application to complete an operation. Kaspersky Security Cloud Free, for instance, had a background effect of only 6% when conducting a full scan while ESET had an effect of 12 percent.
Avira is a German-based company has a good reputation in our tests. It has consistently scored above 90% in the three categories of Protection (False positives) and Performance (False Positives) and Usability. The user interface has a wealth of functionality and features, including a sophisticated “firewall” as well as a variety of privacy tools. Avira’s subscriptions are priced on a monthly basis rather than a predetermined 1-3 year period, making it more convenient to cancel or modify the subscription at any time, without having to worry about second-year renewal price shocks.
A fairly new name that we’ve tested, Essentware – which was previously known as PCKeeper – uses the Avira engine under the hood and generally scores quite well across the all the tests. The interface and performance are both user-friendly but there are some stability issues which included scan jobs freezing up that have led to a lower rating. However, detection was quite good, and a perfect run through the certification sets earned it an VB100 award.
